Download: Duck Sauce - "aNYway (LAZRtag remix)"

Nov 09, 09

With a spaced-out funky breaks version of this year's biggest and brightest club hit yet, "aNYway" from the Armand Van Helden and A-Trak collab known simply as Duck Sauce, the LAZRtag boys from southern California bring out tons of stuttering chopped vocals and delay-switched effects to the instrumental, shedding a little bit of new light on such an already-classic track. It's a new point-of-view on the song for sure, but not one that either truly succeeds or falters too heavily. The treatment will stand as an addition to the LAZRtag arsenal--and that of many a club circuit DJ.

Video: RJD2 tours his home and makes cobbler

Nov 09, 09

In this new edition of the VICE/VBS.tv/Motherboard web series "Electric Independence" we get treated to a walk-through of legendary producer/DJ/artist RJD2's Philadelphia's house and home studio, including a litany of analogue beauties and custom-made instruments. It's like "MTV Cribs" but way less pretentious or ridiculous. And to boot, RJD2 even goes and makes his own very special apple and raspberry cobbler, which if you don't find briefly funny you probably have no soul left in your body. While baking, the interviewer and interviewee peruse drum sets, synths, organs, guitars, bells, whistles, toys, modulators, percussion instruments and the contents of the wet dreams of thousands of electronic music fanboys and fangirls. Start salivating.

Download: Owl Vision - "Leprozy album teaser"

Owl Vision, the bespectacled nom de guerre of the Gothenburg Sweden banger producer who you may have seen a handful of times mentioned on this site, is back with news of his latest release, an 11-track album called Leprozy, which contains all new music in every track, aside from the already released single, "Darkness". The album, which we've been told will be ready to be set free next month, is filled with more of his calling card tunes, which are some of the darkest, dreariest and most consumed-by-the-evil-arts electro we've probably ever heard. Which translates of course to amazing results that we love and can't stop slamming to. Here's a five-minute teaser of banging and clanging sounds you'll hear in the album.

News: Thunderheist release newest single for "LBG"

Nov 09, 09

Thunderheist, the electro/hip hop/party fusion duo of Isis and Grahmzilla return to hearts and minds with the release of their newest single, the popped-and-locked anthem, “LBG” aka "Little Booty Girl". “Little Booty Girl” as a single package comes complete with four new remixes (including one by the new Mad Decent signee Toy Selectah) and it all hits shelves digitally via Big Dada on November 30. We've got a remix of the track that didn't make the cut for the single release, but it's banging anyway, from Alias, more slithery than we've heard before, with an arrangement reminiscent of late-90s R&B/hip hop crossover artists where the vocals were up front and the beat never got in the way.

Tracklist:

01 LBG (original mix)
02 LBG (Toy Selectah remix)
03 LBG (Bombaman remix)
04 LBG (Lucy 'Lo remix)
05 LBG (Bonjay remix)
06 LBG (Lunice remix)

Photos: Girls & Boys on November 6

Nov 08, 09

Seeing Philadelphia born legend DJ Jazzy Jeff is one of those things that doesn't happen often, should be embraced emphatically and should never, we mean never, missed. So we were more than thankful to find his name at the top of the marquee this week at Webster Hall for Girls & Boys, alongside RVA upstart Viking, another new favorite of ours from the last few years. We saw both acts previously (Viking a bunch of times and Jazzy at the Bacardi B-Live event a while ago) but this past Friday was an apex of sorts for us, as they both came out swinging hard and seriously just obliterated the crowd. Jazz spent his 60-plus-minute set playing cut-ups of pretty much every hip hop/pop/electro song that was of any notoriety whatsoever in the last few decades, leaving no rock unturned and no sample unearthed. No sleeping on Viking and you shouldn't have been sleeping on Jazz since the mid-80s if you've known what's good for you.

Video: Saves The Day - "Let It All Go (acoustic)"

Nov 08, 09

In this brief acoustic take, we get the first taste of the new Saves The Day record, Daybreak, which is slated for a release via Vagrant Records early next year with "Let It All Go". The song is pretty standard fare for Chris Conley and the boys in Saves The Day, which to be honest is totally a welcomed notion--you know, stick to what you're really really good at after all.

Photos: Dragonette played Santos Party House

Nov 08, 09

After we left Sputnik in Brooklyn from the Zambri/Max Justus show this past Thursday, we took an adventure-like jaunt from there to Santos Party House (on the edge of Chinatown and Tribeca), meeting up with Cameron from 'Sup Magazine on the way there and waiting for what seemed like two days for the train to get from one borough to the other. All was paid off for though, as we arrived at Santos about halfway through Dragonette's amazing set of high energy electro pop led by the almost-too-good-looking-to-be-human Martina Sorbara and her unreal and easily identifiable voice. We caught the last six songs of the set--and only actually shot the last song--including two exits and returns for encores, something usually relegated to a band of much larger status (not a dig at Dragonette, but usually that's a U2 or the like move). It was super fun and definitely worth coming out for and this band is definitely in need of more hype behind them so--we're looking at you pop artists who'll take them out with you on tour--let's make that happen.

Download: Nakatomi Towers - "Cut Me Out (Mark Lam remix)"

Nov 08, 09

Irish love for the Irish with this, a remix from Dublin producer Mark Lam of the track "Cut Me Out" from Belfast indie electro outfit Nakatomi Towers. We get stuttering vocals and pop-as-shit arrangements of guitars, synths and basslines, kicking drums and Lam's trademark bells and whistles. Cooing vocals and blistering instruments abound in the treatment, slithering in and out of the listener's mind, leaving a really enticing taste in one's mouth, and salivating for more.
