Video: Sally Shapiro - "Love In July"

Jul 10, 09

A new single from Sally Shapiro will be out on Tuesday, July 14 digitally via Paper Bag Records, so for all of you who've been panting for anything at all new from the ice queen of Italo disco, well, there you go. "Love In July" is a summery song, which shouldn't surprise anyone once they find out that it was in fact written in the summer month last year. You're welcome. It's not like you haven't been peppered throughout the last few months with the lead track "Miracle" and it's wonderful remix from BULGARI, right? The new single's video clip is a touching visual story of a goldfish and a whale. Yup. You did just read that sentence. Shapiro's sophomore disc, My Guilty Pleasures, is out August 25.

Tracklist:

01 Love In July (album version)
02 Love In July (Parker Lewis remix)
03 Love In July (Le Prix remix)
04 Love In July (CFCF remix)
05 Love In July (Bostro Pesopeo remix)
06 Love In July (instrumental)

Live: Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival (BEMF) returns; finalizes line-up

Jul 10, 09

The all-day juggernaut now in its second annual volume, BEMF, is back with a line-up that scares the ever-loving-existence out of us, some rad toss-ins to sweeten everyone's minds and a very secretive ploy. Happening this year at The Old American Can Factory, BEMF is helmed once again by Famous Friends, the golden ticket-possessing trio of DJs and promoters that brought you the nine-hour inaugural event last year. But this, well, it's 33% longer. Yup, 4pm until 4am. And it's got two stages, doubling last year. And two hours of PBR open bar (4pm - 6pm). We're sort of losing our minds over the list of acts they've been able to secure, like (tip of the proverbial iceberg here) The Juan Maclean, Adventure, Viking, NROTB and Awesome New Republic, but we don't think anyone in their right mindset could argue that this isn't the best line-up of independent music acts of the summer.

About that secret? Famous Friends will be announcing a very special surprise guest headliner via twitter on the day of the show. Follow them on Twitter to receive the latest news in advance. Advance tickets are $25 and can be purchased now. RJD2 will not be performing as previously announced.

Full line-up after the jump.

Yes, plural. As in Doorly releasing two different versions of his own remixes of the newest Basement Jaxx single "Raindrops". One is a bonafide club 4/4 typical version you'd expect from anything labeled "remix" and the other is a more driven, thirds dubstep treatment. Both have gotten some rounds in the British Isles and both are available in super high quality WAV format here. Doorly is playing the Ibiza Rocks parties and afterparties, "Reclaim The Dancefloor" this summer, with the next one popping on July 14 with Keane, Zane Lowe, Rusko, Chase & Status and Sinden.

Web: Esser is up for mtvU's "Freshmen" video of the week

Jul 10, 09

"Headlock", the more-than-interesting schoolyard dance video from Esser's debut, Breakface, is up for the collective voting for the "best of the week" video contest from the college-based mtvU's show "The Freshmen". Today happens to be the last day to vote for the young lad, but we have a feeling it's going to be alright. He did, after all, get a bump from Madonna. To cast your vote for Esser, head on over to the web site for mtvU's "The Freshmen". Esser plays the Loop Festival in Brighton, UK on Sunday.

Download: Empire Of The Sun - "Walking On A Dream (French Horn Rebellion remix)"

Jul 09, 09

Smoothed out, leisure suit-wearing remix treatment that takes the psychedelia straight out of the original track, this new remix from French Horn Rebellion of the Empire Of The Sun track "Walking On The Sun" keeps pepping away, riding out on a wavering, slinky bassline and tempered vocal ticks, synth pulses and aural effects. The treatment employs tricks and treats throughout making for an enjoyable few minutes. Nothing shocking, sure, but it's still a good time with these guys in French Horn Rebellion.

Download: The New Devices - "Everything Good (The Japanese Popstars remix)"

Jul 09, 09

It's been a long time since the electro world has been this excited about a prospected talent. The Japanese Popstars have literally been getting the nod from the likes of Pete Tong, Zane Lowe, DJ Mag and others (including us, of course) and they just keep on climbing, releasing epic building tracks that are as fiery as can be. The trio don't seem to take the hype all too seriously, but in any event, they sit perched on a ledge all by themselves. The New Devices, a UK-based duo of producers who met at a squat party (fittingly enough), are searching for their rung on this ladder, too, with energy, mischief, intensely layered arrangements and soaring, is-it-analog-or-not crunching guitars and synths. So naturally we'd be thrilled at the prospect of these two acts meeting and thrilled we are. The Japanese Popstars take on the seedy original "Everything Good", turning it from a post-NIN throbber into a sky-high, bassy, club-filling anthem.
